Faulconer Construction: Better HR Management Helped Us Do the Work That Matters

0%

Faulconer Construction is an integrated site and heavy civil contractor with 500 employees based in Charlottesville, VA, with operations in nearby North Carolina. Their story is told from their perspective, and is based on their company profile during Trimble Dimensions from November 2023.

Before implementing Viewpoint HR Management for Vista, we were totally paper based when it came to HR. Applicants were filling out paper applications at one of six office locations. New hires filled out paper forms for payroll and benefits in an office conference room where they watched our safety videos. Every one of those paper forms had to be manually entered into Viewpoint and other software systems. Applications were scanned and stored in folders for each area. Benefit enrollment was handled through a third-party platform offered by our insurance brokers. The process was slow, cumbersome, and consumed much of HR’s time.

After purchasing the HR Management module, it transformed our processes for applicants, employees, hiring managers and our HR team.

Utilizing the ATS feature, job requisitions became almost one-click tasks. HR Management allowed us to offer a digital application process with analytics at our fingertips.

New hire packets were digitized with the information flowing into Viewpoint and reducing manual data entry. HR Management allowed us to develop our own benefit enrollment portal and customize the experience moving away from a third-party platform where we didn’t have any control over how the information was presented and all of the data had to be manually entered into Viewpoint.

We’ve also built performance evaluations and course registration for workforce training offerings which also flow right into Viewpoint, eliminating manual data entry and paper sign-in lists.

We are able to use the employee portal to communicate with ALL of our employees which was near impossible before. We are a much more inclusive workplace and our culture has been positively impacted by the improvements in employee engagement.

By eliminating the clerical tasks, we were able to focus on employee education, engagement and building relationships with the field. We now have the bandwidth to spend our time by visiting every job site and conducting benefit reviews with each employee. What we quickly learned was that it doesn’t matter how many benefits the company offers if the employees didn’t know what they were nor how to use them.

Our employees now have an HR team that has the resources (time) to provide timely and value-specific assistance relating to benefits, life challenges and so much more. We even offer after-business hours during open enrollment so spouses can ask questions about our benefit plans.

In addition to offering one-on-one benefit education, we are able to focus on strategic initiatives such as benefit improvement, content development for new training classes and safety programs.

Faulconer also moved to the TC1 cloud last year, a process that’s brought a lot of relief to our IT team. In fact, IT often pairs with HR on jobsite visits, to help employees learn how to logging in, use good device security, and put bookmarks straight to the HR portal so they can see pay stubs, see benefits information, and access company information.

In closing, our employees and their families have benefits that work for their specific needs, save money and are comfortable picking up the phone to call HR to ask questions or for assistance.
